S-M-S schreiner machine service is a leading supplier of machines and spare parts for the mattress and upholstered furniture industry. Our focus is mainly on pocket spring and wave spring machines.
We serve a large number of furniture and mattress manufacturers in the USA, Europe and Asia. In addition to our high quality innerspring machines, we also offer specialised wire bending machines and foam cutting machines to meet the diverse needs of our customers.
Our spare parts service is continuously being expanded to ensure that our customers always receive the parts they need to keep their machines running optimally. In addition, we are constantly working on the development and distribution of further machines for the production of mattresses and upholstered furniture to meet the needs of the industry.
In view of the Covid 19 pandemic, we have expanded our product portfolio to offer machines for the production of respiratory masks. We are also able to import respirators to meet customer demand and assist in the fight against the spread of the virus.
In 2018, Mike Schreiner, Klaus and Laraine’s son, joined the company after gaining valuable experience at one of Europe’s largest pet food manufacturers.
In 2011, their son Max Schreiner also joined the company. He left the company in 2017 to run a company in the US for a period of two years, but returned in 2019.
The addition of Mike and Max Schreiner has brought additional expertise and experience to the company, which has helped to further strengthen the business and drive growth.
Laraine & Klaus Schreiner
In 2010, Klaus Schreiner and his wife Laraine spun off the machine department and founded the company S-M-S schreiner machine service.
In 2004, Klaus Schreiner decided to add pocket spring machines to the product line. These state-of-the-art machines were manufactured by Lian Rou, a leading Chinese manufacturer.
After the death of Siegfried Schreiner in 2003, his three sons Klaus, Rudolf and Georg successfully continued the family business CT Continental Ticking GmbH.
In 2000, Max Schreiner KG changed its representation from Spühl to Frank L. Wells and began selling Wells Zig Zag machines to upholstery and mattress manufacturers. In 2009, Frank L. Wells was sold along with the Zig Zag machines to Toolrite Manufacturing Company, Inc.

- Unisoft GmbH was founded in 1979.
- Rudolf Schreiner, Siegfried’s second son, joined the company in 1978.
- Meco GmbH & Co.KG was founded in 1973.
- In 1972, SDV Schreiner Datenverarbeitung GmbH was founded. It was founded by Siegfried Schreiner and Egon Hendrix, a software engineer.
- In 1972, CT Continental Ticking GmbH was transformed from a sales organisation into a manufacturing company to ensure the quality of the products offered to the industry.
Klaus Schreiner
Klaus Schreiner, son of Siegfried and Hildegard Schreiner, joined Max Schreiner KG in 1972. The company was renamed Max Schreiner GmbH & Co.KG shortly afterwards. Klaus only left the company for the period from 1975 to 1979 to complete his studies.
Developments in the 60s
In 1968, the company’s bookkeeping had reached its limits. A computer was purchased, but programmes were not available. No problem for Siegfried Schreiner. He hired a programmer who created the necessary programmes for the then Max Schreiner KG and its partner companies.

Formex Plastik GmbH was founded by Siegfried Schreiner together with 2 partners, Josef Peters and Heinrich Weynhofen, to produce plastic handles and foldable transport boxes. Soon other products for the mattress industry such as bed feet for upholstered beds were manufactured.

Foundation of the company CT Continental Ticking GmbH 1966
CT Continental Ticking was founded by Siegfried Schreiner together with two partners, Anton Cramer and Fritz Tangerding, as a sales organisation to bring first-class European products to the world.
In the following years, Siegfried Schreiner built up a worldwide sales organisation. Since then, CT has been distributing Continental Ticking, Siegfried Schreiner’s trademark, with more than 50 branches and representatives all over the world.

Developments in the 50s
interzum is the world’s leading trade fair for furniture production and interior design. This is where the most important business is done and where the impulses for the global furniture supply industry are set.
In May 1959, Max Schreiner KG took part in the 1st interzum trade fair in Cologne. Since that time, we have not missed a single exhibition. Siegfried Schreiner was a member of the advisory board of the Cologne trade fair interzum until 2002.
Around 1958, the Max Schreiner company changed to Max Schreiner KG. The mattress industry bought inlets in a width of 115 cm and 145 cm, which left a lot of waste depending on the mattress width. Siegfried Schreiner had inlets produced in a width of 204 cm, which allowed the industry to match the width of the inlet to the length of the mattress and not waste so much material. This production is still going on today.
In 1957, Siegfried Schreiner laid the foundation stone for a weaving mill that produced ribbons and textiles for mattress production. Siegfried Schreiner continued this exhibition in the company’s factory over the next few years, bringing the supply industry together. This exhibition developed as the cornerstone for the Cologne trade fair interzum.
This first exhibition took place in the factory in the centre of Kevelaer and showed various machines for the improved production of mattresses and upholstery. Siegfried Schreiner decided to invite his business partners to Kevelaer to present the machines built by the company as well as the machines Max Schreiner traded in.

Siegfried Schreiner
Siegfried Schreiner was brought into the management by his father in 1948. He established connections and links to production sites in all parts of the world. In addition to retail and wholesale, he also carried out representations and in-house production in many countries and made the Schreiner group of companies one of the world’s largest suppliers to the mattress, upholstery and quilt industry.
The Schreiner company took on the representation of companies such as Spühl (for spring machines) and P. Fanghanel & Co. LTD. London (for woven tape edge machines). Siegfried Schreiner sold the first spring machines for Spühl to the USA in 1956.

Max Schreiner
Max Schreiner laid the foundation for today’s S-M-S Schreiner Machine Service in 1928. Between the world wars, the company was unable to establish the global connections that characterise us today. But after the reconstruction, Max Schreiner dared to make a new start at the age of 70. He developed and patented a new filling machine for grass, straw and hay. This machine was launched on the market in the mid-1950s.
